A vacillating monologue of an entrapped prison guard
Writer Nic Bruckman works as a prison guard in London’s largest prison. There he observes and experiences the complexity of being locked up. The prison, as a closed world, where evil is stored and freedom is limited. A place where bars are border areas and ambiguity is trapped.
‘Entrapment creates an extraordinary tension, present in both the sober staging by Anne Maike Mertens, as in the peak performance by Yannick Noomen.’ Het Parool
Entrapment is a co-production between Nineties Productions and the writer’s company, Bruckman Projecten. It is a monologue based on the experiences of Nic as a prison officer at HMP Wandsworth. It tells the story of an officer, who struggles to break through the rigidity of prison. A story (performed by Yannick Noomen) full of frustration, violence, body parts and destruction. But also, despite everything, unrestrained intimacy. Together, the piece is an attempt to escape our rectilinear world, and to build a new and multiform universe. The production will tour the Netherlands and play 40 times.
‘Gruesome [ … ] immersively performed, impressively depicted stage monologue.’ De Groene Amsterdammer
